Terminology Used in the Review Environment
The Gosaurori review interface uses a specific vocabulary to describe how information is organised, how records are displayed, and how users interact with the environment. This guide explains the key terms so users can navigate the environment with a clear understanding of what each concept refers to.
Inspection and navigation terminology
Review Environment
The review environment refers to the complete Gosaurori interface through which users inspect organised records. It includes the navigation structure, the record display panels, the orientation aids, and the filtering and scoping controls. The review environment is the user-facing layer of the service rather than the underlying data storage or organisation system.
Record
A record is a single unit of structured information within the review environment. Each record belongs to a category and contains a set of fields that may be fully populated, partially populated, or empty depending on what information was configured for that entry. Records are the primary objects that users inspect during a review session.
Field
A field is a named attribute within a record that holds a specific type of information. Fields are defined by the record type and are displayed consistently across all records of that type. Where a field has not been populated, the interface displays a clear indicator rather than omitting the field, allowing users to distinguish between information that is absent and information that is not applicable.
Category
A category is an organisational grouping that collects records sharing a common type or subject classification. The review environment organises its content into categories that users can navigate independently. Navigating a category displays the records assigned to it and any available observation summary for that category.
Classification Label
A classification label is a controlled vocabulary term applied to a record to indicate its type, subject, or organisational status. Classification labels appear consistently alongside records and are used to support the scoping and filtering functions of the interface. Labels are defined by the environment configuration and are not user-assigned.
Observation Summary
An observation summary is a structured description of the composition and completeness of the records within a given category. It indicates how many records are present, what proportion have fully populated fields, and where common patterns or gaps appear in the classification labels used. Observation summaries are generated from the current state of the environment and are updated as the environment changes.
Scope Parameter
A scope parameter is a constraint applied to the records visible in a review session. Scope parameters may limit the visible records by category, classification label, field content, or other criteria defined by the interface configuration. When scope parameters are active, the interface displays them clearly in the orientation panel so users understand which records are included in the current view and which are outside the defined scope.
Inspection Sequence
The inspection sequence is the default order in which the review environment guides users through its content. The sequence is designed to reflect common patterns in how users approach a review task, moving from high-level orientation through category selection and scoping to individual record inspection. Users are not required to follow the default sequence and may navigate freely using the environment's navigation aids.
Orientation Panel
The orientation panel is a persistent element of the review interface that displays the user's current location within the category hierarchy, the active scope parameters for the session, and a summary of any filters currently applied. The orientation panel remains visible during navigation to help users maintain context across extended review sessions.
Session History
The session history is a record of the individual entries that a user has examined during the current review session. It allows users to return to previously inspected records without reconstructing their navigation path. Session history is maintained within the current session and is not retained after the session ends.
Layered Display
The layered display is the presentation mode in which a record's information is organised into expandable levels of detail. The outermost level shows a summary suitable for quick review. Inner levels progressively reveal more detailed field information. Users can expand or collapse layers according to the depth of inspection they need at any given point in a session.
Scope Indicator
A scope indicator is an interface element that marks the known boundaries of a particular record or category. Where a record represents a subset or partial view of a broader subject, the scope indicator communicates this to users explicitly so they do not draw conclusions based on the assumption that the record represents a complete or exhaustive account.
Applying these concepts in the review environment
The terminology described on this page is used consistently throughout the Gosaurori interface. When you encounter a term during a review session, its meaning reflects the definition provided here. Where a term is used in a specific context that requires additional explanation, the interface displays a brief note alongside the relevant element.
If you encounter a term in the review environment that is not covered on this page, or if a definition is unclear in context, you are welcome to submit a question through the Gosaurori enquiry form. The support team can provide clarification directly.
